HYDE PARK GROVE HISTORICAL MARKER
FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2026, NOON
GULF GATE LIBRARY
The process of historical research, application and approval, has been a thorough one, taking more than 3 years. Though approved one year earlier, the actual work of designing and forging the cast aluminum markers takes significant, additional, time.
This coming April 17, 2026, the Historic Center of Sarasota County, will sponsor a ceremony to present this illustrious honor to Forest Lakes residents at the Gulf Gate Library. The marker denotes the original location of the Hyde Park Groves, one of the more formidable citrus groves in the state located right here in Forest Lakes and once owned by the Palmer family.
As area dignitaries will be in attendance, the ceremony will be held during the work week and the workday.
We are told there are approximately 100+ markers throughout the county. Each made of forged cast aluminum, and which are sustained with aluminum posts. It is these monuments that denote the historic significance of the area in which we live. They serve as visual reminders that this land has played a major role in the story of Sarasota Florida’s significance to the state and its evolution.
If you have never attended such an occasion, we strongly recommend you make arrangements to do so. This is a very unique opportunity that is not always available to anyone to attend.
PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THIS UNIQUE EVENT
