Why Amendment #3 Matters to Us All
You will recall that Amendment 3 proposes significant changes to Florida's property-tax system. Among other provisions, it would increase the homestead exemption for certain non-school property taxes, reduce the annual assessment-increase cap on non-homestead property from 10% to 5%, and establish limitations on how local governments may use property-tax revenues. The amendment, if approved, would take effect January 1, 2027. The information shared by the City and County at this critical meeting provides an important look at what our local governments are preparing for should Amendment 3 pass. Because these potential changes could affect local government revenues—and consequently the funding available for services and infrastructure—it is important for FLCCE residents to understand what was discussed, particularly as it relates to stormwater, drainage, infrastructure maintenance and other services that directly affect our neighborhood.
