Board Business
The President gave a Board overview of happenings in 2021. Details are shared in the Committee reports. He also gave the treasurer’s report, as the Treasurer was unable to attend.
The Vice President/Communications chair shared the considerable activity done to communicate with the residents and pointed to the large screen set up to show the flccehoa.com website. To see the extensive work completed, visit the site here.
Deed Restrictions Report was shared by the D/R committee who explained how the process works. See specific details here on the website. Vice President- announced the 4 Holiday Lights Contest winners and passed out the awards to those recipients present. They were: Santa's Choice: 1811 Riviera Circle
Tropical Fantasy: 3277 Espanola Drive
Classic Christmas: 2040 Riviera Drive
Festival of Lights: 3500 Sea View Street She also gave updates as to the numerous family events held in 2021 and plans for the future.
Golf Course Committee Chair- Provided an update on the status of the course. To date, no word of the status of a possible sale. However, the Covenant in place, (which is a binding legal document), protects our neighborhood from any use other than a golf course or a natural preserve. Governance Commission (GC) Chair-Explained that the purpose of the group formed in 2021, was to begin review of, and perform thorough due diligence of, deed restrictions which may be in need of change/update. Questions related to the state statute #712- Marketable Records Title Act, (MRTA), were raised early in 2021. Extensive research is required to fully ascertain any possible impact of this statute. Once that is complete the GC will, as charged, present a formal recommendation to the Board.
Former Deed Restriction Chairs also spoke to the significance of enforcing our Deed Restrictions and the critical impact it has on our property values. Yard Squad/Area Enhancements Chair- Spoke to the many area improvements underway and how the Yard Squad volunteers are helping neighbors improve their properties. A significant effort to apply for county grant funds to improve the safety (along Beneva) and the aesthetics throughout, is underway. The Committee Chair for this effort will present under New Business.
Membership report- The membership drive is well underway. The newly developed on-line Renew Membership button is very successful and has made it much easier for residents to become members.
The Nominating Committee-presented a slate of prospective Board members. The Members in Good Standing (residents who have paid their dues), voted to approve the slate. In addition, one resident was nominated from the floor. She was also voted in by unanimous consent.
Under New Business- The County Outreach Chair- announced the County Grant application process and need for neighbors to sign up and show their support for the efforts. She also spoke to the Sarasota Bay & Estuary Program (SBEP); a second grant process underway to work to improve and sustain our water quality, into Philippi Creek.
She also announced the reinvigoration of a Speakers Series with various presentations by experts in their fields. This series is in partnership with the South Gate Association, beginning late February. Please go to flccehoa.com. Also, look for details in future e-blasts.
