The Bahia Vista Parallel Force Main project continues through Forest Lakes. The purpose of the project is to expand existing wastewater transmission lines from the South Gate Lift Station on Hyde Park Street to the Bee Ridge Reclamation facility because the mains are reaching capacity.
As most are aware, the previous contractor, American Pipeline, was fired by the County in December 2021.
Since then the Association has written multiple letters seeking relief on behalf of the residents. Through iterative correspondence, the County identified that a new contractor, Forsberg Construction was retained in August 2022. Then the project was further delayed by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole.
Then work began again in December 2022. As the Association had requested, Brookhaven Drive was repaved, albeit temporarily, and the County hung a privacy screen on the fence around the stockpile area, and removed pipes from the area. For the safety of our residents, the Association had also requested something be done to improve the dust situation. Sarasota County has confirmed they are providing dust abatement via watering of the storage area and the roads multiple times per week. Additionally they have implemented slow speed limits in the storage area and on Hyde Park leading to it, to keep dust down.
The County said the staging area will have dirt stored there for the entirety of the project which is anticipated to be completed in May 2024.
The County has stated that they anticipate working along Brookhaven Drive/Hyde Park/Sea View areas for the next 2-3 months while all existing piping is being tested and repaired and the new pipe is installed.
As this work continues, the County has specified “traffic in the neighborhood will be dropped to one lane only in specific areas that are being worked in and will be continually fluid until work in that areas is completed (2-3 months). Please note that Sarasota County will ensure access to local traffic even during road closure times.”
County documents indicate that once work in our neighborhood is complete, they’ll move to Beneva for cleaning, testing, and replacing pipes…so there will again be disruptions there.
The County has stated to the Association that, after the transmission project is complete in 2024, construction improvements on the existing South Gate Master Pump Station on Hyde Park will begin. Then, after the pump station is finished, final landscaping will go in around the lift station/stockpile area. Click here for the Sarasota County project description and schedule.
